Replacing the Drum Cartridge 8-31Maintenance8• Never attempt to disassemble or modify the cartridge.• If a cartridge is brought to an environment where the temperature differs extremely,condensation may occur both inside and on the outside of the cartridge. If you are goingto install a cartridge that was stored in a cold place in a warm room, leave the cartridgestored in the protective bag for over two hours in the warm room so that it can adapt tothe ambient temperature.• Be sure to use a new cartridge within the expiration date indicated on the package.• Using a genuine Canon drum cartridge is recommended.Storing a Drum CartridgeBe careful of the following points for storing new cartridges or those that wereremoved for maintenance.IMPORTANT• Do not remove a new drum cartridge from the protective bag until it is ready to be used.• If a drum cartridge has to be removed from the machine for maintenance, place it in theprotective bag that it came in or wrap it with a thick cloth immediately.• Do not store a cartridge in a place exposed to direct sunlight.• Do not store a cartridge in a hot or humid place, or a place where the temperature andhumidity can change significantly.Storing temperature range: 32 to 95 °F ( 0 to 35 °C)Storing humidity range: 35 to 85 % RH (no condensation)• Do not store a cartridge in a place that can generate corrosive gases such as ammonia,a place in which a considerable amount of salt is contained in the air, or a place with a lotof dust.• Store the cartridge out of the reach of small children.CondensationEven within the storable humidity range, water drops may develop both inside and on theoutside of the cartridge due to the difference in temperature. The development of waterdrops is called condensation. Condensation will adversely affect the quality of thecartridge.
