Replacing the Cartridges 8-15Maintenance8• If a toner cartridge has to be removed from the machine for maintenance, attach theprotective cover immediately and place it in the protective bag that it came in or wrap itwith a thick cloth.• Do not place it vertically or upside-down. Store a cartridge in the same position as wheninstalled in the machine.• Do not store a cartridge in a place exposed to direct sunlight.• Do not store a cartridge in a hot or humid place, or a place where the temperature andhumidity can change significantly.Storing temperature range: 32 to 95 °F ( 0 to 35 °C)Storing humidity range: 35 to 85 % RH (no condensation)• Do not store a cartridge in a place that can generate corrosive gases such as ammonia,a place in which a considerable amount of salt is contained in the air, or a place with a lotof dust.• Store the cartridge out of the reach of small children.■ CondensationEven within the storable humidity range, water drops may develop both inside and on theoutside of the cartridge due to the difference in temperature. The development of waterdrops is called condensation. Condensation will adversely affect the quality of the tonercartridge.Recycling Used CartridgesCanon has instituted a worldwide recycling program forcartridges called "The Clean Earth Campaign." Thisprogram preserves precious natural resources by utilizing avariety of materials found in the used cartridges that are ofno further use, to remanufacture new cartridges which, atthe same time, keeps the environment cleaner by reducinglandfill waste.
