If you arefollowing either the Bromine or Chlorine “Clear WaterPlans”, you will notice that both start-up processes arethe same with the exception of Step 6. As with allchemical dosages listed in these “Clear Water Plans”,start-up dosages are intended for 500-gallon spas.Please adjust the chemical dosages to the capacity ofyour particular spa.Start UpClean surface of spa with Cal Spas “Multi-Purpose1.Cleaner”.Apply a protective coat of Cal Spas “Fast Sheen”2.to the acrylic surface.Fill spa to proper water level with normal tap water3.(Do not use soft water)Use test strip and balance the spa water:4.Adjust total alkalinity (acceptable range is 80-•120ppm),Then adjust pH if necessary (between 7.2 to•7.8).Pour in 16 oz of Cal Spas “Metal Protector” to5.center of spa.Add either Bromine or Chlorine (According to your6.preferred plan)Bromine: Add 2 oz of Cal Spas “Go Brom” toestablish a bromine base.Add 2 Cal Spas “Bromine Tablets” toBromine Floater.Set floater opening at #2.Chlorine: Add two tablespoons of Cal Spas“Chlorine Granules” to the spa water.Sprinkle 2 oz of Cal Spas “Oxidizer Shock” in the7.center of the spa and turn on jets for 15 minutes.Leave spa uncovered during this time.Put cover on spa and allow to heat up to desired8.temperature.Bromine Clear Water PlanThis plan and its chemical dosages are intended forCal Spas chemicals only. Most chemical manufacturersuse different chemical formulas and strengths. OnlyCal spas chemicals are specially formulated to providechemical balance at lower dosages. Always read andfollow printed instructions on chemical bottles andpackages.Day One (Monday)Test spa water using “Bromine Test Strips”.1.Based on the Test Strip readings:2.Adjust total alkalinity first (acceptable range•of 80-120 ppm)Then adjust the pH if needed (range is•between 7.2 to 7.8).Add bromine tablets if needed. (Do not add•more than 2)The recommended level of bromine is 3-5•ppm.Add 2 oz of “Stain and Scale Defense”.3.Remove dirty filter from the spa and rinse off.4.Allow to dry.Place your extra clean filter cartridge back into the5.spa.Vacuum debris from the bottom of your spa with6.the “Spa Vacuum”.Day Two (Wednesday)Test spa water using Bromine Test Strips.1.Based on the Test Strip reading: Adjust total2.alkalinity, then the pH if needed.Day Three (Friday)Test spa water using Bromine Test Strips.1.Based on the Test Strip reading:2.Adjust total alkalinity, then the pH if needed.•Add one Bromine Tablet (if needed).•Add 2 oz of Oxidizer Shock to spa. Run Spa for 153.minutes with cover off.Replace cover.4.
