Instrumentation and Controls. . . 80■ STABILITRAK® SYSTEMThis system combines antilockbrake, traction and stabilitycontrol systems to help maintaindirectional control under mostdriving conditions.When the system senses that thereis a discrepancy between theintended path and the directionthe vehicle is travelling, itselectively applies the brakes tohelp steer the vehicle.The system comes on automatical-ly when you start the engine.When you first start the vehicleand begin to drive away, theStabilitrak system performs severaldiagnostic checks to ensure thatthere are no problems.You may feel or hear the systemworking, but this is normal.The system should be doneinitializing before the vehiclereaches a speed of 32 km/h(20 mph). In some cases, it maytake approximately two miles ofdriving before the systemcompletes initialization.If the system fails initialization, oneof the following messages willappear on the Driver InformationCenter display:• TRACTION CONTROL OFF• SERVICE TRACTIONCONTROL• STABILITRAK OFF• SERVICE STABILITRAKThe Stabilitrak Indicator Light willcome on and stay on.Turn the steering wheel left to thenine o’clock position and thenright to the three o’clock position.Doing this may clear the message.If the message still appears, youmay need to reset the system.AKENG44_Escalade Page 80 Wednesday, July 16, 2008 12:22 PM
