But it will perform better in the longrun if you follow these guidelines for the first500 miles (805 km):• Do not drive at any one constant speed, fastor slow.• Do not exceed 70 mph (113 km/h).• Do not make full-throttle starts; also refrain fromusing the full throttle while driving. Avoiddownshifting to brake, or slow, the vehicle.If these procedures are not followed, your engine,axle, or other parts could be damaged.Avoid making hard stops for the first 200 miles(322 km) or so. During this time your new brakelinings are not yet broken in. Hard stops with newlinings can mean premature wear and earlierreplacement. Follow this break-in guideline everytime you get new linings.Do not tow a trailer during break-in. See Towing aTrailer on page 4-39 for the trailer towing capabilitiesof your vehicle and more information.Following break-in, engine speed and load can begradually increased.Ignition PositionsWith the key in the ignition switch, you can turn the keyto four different positions.Notice: Using a tool to force the key from theignition switch could cause damage or break thekey. Use the correct key and turn the key only withyour hand. Make sure the key is all the way in.If it is, turn the steering wheel left and right whileyou turn the key hard. If none of this works,then your vehicle needs service.2-22
