Buying New TiresGM has developed and matched specific tires foryour vehicle. The original equipment tires installedon your vehicle, when it was new, were designed tomeet General Motors Tire Performance CriteriaSpecification (TPC Spec) system rating. If you needreplacement tires, GM strongly recommends that youget tires with the same TPC Spec rating. This way,your vehicle will continue to have tires that are designedto give the same performance and vehicle safety,during normal use, as the original tires.GM’s exclusive TPC Spec system considers over adozen critical specifications that impact the overallperformance of your vehicle, including brake systemperformance, ride and handling, traction control, andtire pressure monitoring performance. GM’s TPC Specnumber is molded onto the tire’s sidewall by the tiremanufacturer. If the tires have an all-season treaddesign, the TPC Spec number will be followed by aMS for mud and snow. See Tire Sidewall Labelingon page 5-58 for additional information.The 18-inch performance tires, size 245/45R18 96V,used on some vehicles, meet the General Motors TirePerformance Criteria Specification (TPC Spec) ratingbut the TPC Spec code has not been molded ontothe tire’s sidewall. If your vehicle has these tires, andyou need to replace them, you can still get theseTPC Spec rated tires by asking your GM dealer.Your GM dealer can order these tires by part number.This way, your vehicle will continue to give theproper endurance, handling, traction, and ride as theoriginal tires.5-73
