Automatic Transmission FluidIt is not necessary to check the transmission fluid level.A transmission fluid leak is the only reason for fluidloss. If a leak occurs, take your vehicle to yourGM dealer service department and have it repaired assoon as possible.Change the fluid and filter at the intervals listed inAdditional Required Services on page 6-6, and be sureto use the transmission fluid listed in RecommendedFluids and Lubricants on page 6-13.Notice: Use of the incorrect automatic transmissionfluid may damage your vehicle, and the damagesmay not be covered by your warranty. Alwaysuse the automatic transmission fluid listed inRecommended Fluids and Lubricants on page 6-13.How to Reset the Change TransmissionFluid Message and the TransmissionFluid IndicatorAfter the transmission fluid has been changed, theChange Trans Fluid message and the transmissionfluid life indicator must be reset. To reset the messageand indicator, use one of the following procedures:Base Audio SystemPress the CLR (Clear) button located to the right ofthe DIC display to acknowledge the CHANGE TRANSFLUID message. This will clear the message fromthe display and reset it.To reset the transmission fluid life indicator, use thefollowing steps:1. Press the up or down arrow on the INFO buttonlocated to the right of the DIC display to accessthe DIC menu.2. Once the XXX% TRANS FLUID LIFE menu itemis highlighted, press and hold the CLR button.The percentage will return to 100, and thetransmission fluid life indicator will be reset.3. Repeat the steps if the percentage does notreturn to 100.Navigation SystemIf your vehicle has a navigation system, see yournavigation system supplement for instructions on howto acknowledge the Change Trans Fluid messageand reset the transmission fluid life indicator.5-23
