After the tires have been rotated, adjust the front andrear inflation pressures as shown on the Tire andLoading Information label.Vehicles equipped with the Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM)system will need to have the sensors reset after a tirerotation is performed. A special tool is needed toreset the sensor identification codes. See your dealerfor service.Make certain that all wheel nuts are properly tightened.See “Wheel Nut Torque” under Capacities andSpecifications on page 5-106.{CAUTION:Rust or dirt on a wheel, or on the parts to whichit is fastened, can make wheel nuts becomeloose after a time. The wheel could come off andcause an accident. When you change a wheel,remove any rust or dirt from places where thewheel attaches to the vehicle. In an emergency,you can use a cloth or a paper towel to do this;but be sure to use a scraper or wire brush later,if you need to, to get all the rust or dirt off. SeeChanging a Flat Tire on page 5-77.When It Is Time for New TiresOne way to tell when it’stime for new tires is tocheck the treadwearindicators, which willappear when your tireshave only 1/16 inch(1.6 mm) or less of treadremaining.You need a new tire if any of the following statementsare true:• You can see the indicators at three or more placesaround the tire.• You can see cord or fabric showing through thetire’s rubber.• The tread or sidewall is cracked, cut or snaggeddeep enough to show cord or fabric.• The tire has a bump, bulge or split.• The tire has a puncture, cut or other damage thatcan’t be repaired well because of the size orlocation of the damage.5-70
