Using the PCL DriverChapter 3: Printing v 3-21Overlays A Page Overlay is a partial document that the driver canmerge with your print job, producing a printed image thatincludes elements of both the overlay and yourdocument. Overlays are most useful for creating suchthings as company letterhead. You can create theletterhead in your application as a page overlay, thendownload it and store it in the printer. Whenever youwant to print a document with the overlay, you just sendthe print job to the printer with the Overlay command, and the printer will automatically print the letterhead oneach page of your document. Page overlays eliminate theneed to download the same information more than once, thus saving transmission time. However, they do use upprinter memory or disk space. An overlay differs from a watermark in these respects:• An overlay can contain graphics and text in anynumber of fonts in any number of sizes and colors. Awatermark can contain only text of one font, one sizeand one color.• An overlay is usually on the margins of a page, while awatermark is usually in the middle of a page.• An overlay usually will not obscure any part of thedocument, but a watermark usually will.• An overlay uses space on the printer's hard disk, but awatermark does not.Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine
