200 Drive Control SystemsContinuous Damping Control 3(CDC)Normal modeCDC automatically adapts vehicledamping to the current driving situationand road conditions. The system continually monitors wheel andvehicle movements and immediatelymodifies the damping of each shockabsorber. Chassis calibration is optimallyadapted to the driving situation and roadconditions.Continuous Damping Control is always innormal mode with the ignition is switchedon. If desired, the system can be switchedto SPORT mode.In SPORT mode, the damping control isadapted to a sportier driving style, amongother things. This adaptation results in a"harder" suspension setting.SPORT mode - see next column.SPORT modeIn SPORT mode the damping, the steeringand the acceleration are modified whiledriving, as are the shifting points if thevehicle has automatic transmission 3.Damping and steering become more directand provide better contact with the roadsurface. The engine reacts more quickly toaccelerator movements. With automatic transmission 3 the shifttimes are reduced and gear changes occurat higher engine speeds (not when cruisecontrol 3 is active). The LED in thebutton illuminates. In vehicles with automatic transmission 3the control indicator 1 also illuminates inthe transmission display. If the winter programme has beenswitched on 3 (vehicles with automatictransmission 3) SPORT mode cannot beactivated.Winter programme – see page 182.
