Troubleshooting Intermittent Electrical FaultsAttempt to Duplicate the Fault1. Operate the machine based on the information provided by the operator.2. Observe the machine during normal operation. Pay attention to how the machine is being operated.3. Work toward being able to duplicate the fault predictably.4. Make notes as you proceed through your diagnosis. Document your steps and any test results for futurereference.Complete the Basic Maintenance ChecksCheck the Condition of the Battery1. Inspect for any corroded, loose, or damaged wires and connections, including all chassis ground points.• Loosen, clean, and tighten the battery connections (cables, posts, etc.).• Loosen, clean, and tighten the chassis ground points.2. Load test the battery to ensure it meets the output specification.Test the Charging SystemTest the charging system to ensure it meets the output specification.Inspect Fuses and Fusible Links1. Verify all fuses are of the correct rating and that the contacts are clean and securely seated.2. Verify all fusible links are of the correct rating and that the connectors are clean and securely seated.Note: Open fuses are not necessarily the cause of a failure.Circuit Wiring and ConnectorsCommon issues to look for are:• Damaged wiring insulation• Corrosion• Broken wire strands• Incorrect wiring circuit or harness routing• Loose connections between connectors• Loose, bent, or backed out connector terminals• Connector housing locks that are broken or not engaging fully• Improper or weak crimps, splices, and soldered joints• Discolored or burned connectorsCAN Circuits and Communication CaptureIf the intermittent issue remains after the basic diagnostic processes are complete, use the controller-specificdiagnostic tools and functions available to monitor or capture data as the malfunction occurs. These include:• Toro DIAG Save function (see the Toro DIAG User’s Guide)• Toro DIAG CAN Capture function (see the Toro DIAG User’s Guide)• Yanmar SA-D Error Diagnosis Data Save and Display Functions (see the Yanmar SmartAssist OperationManual, Chapter 7)Note: It is also possible to coordinate with Toro TAC and obtain a memorator to record CAN bus activityto assist in identifying intermittent faults.16
