SafetyImproperly using or maintaining the trencher canresult in injury. To reduce the potential for injury,comply with these safety instructions and those in themachineOperator’s Manual. Always pay attention to thesafety alert symbol, which means Caution, Warning, orDanger—personal safety instruction. Failure to complywith the instruction may result in personal injury ordeath.DANGERThere may be buried power, gas, and/or telephonelines in the work area. An electric shock or anexplosion may occur if you dig into a utility line.Have the property or work area marked for buriedlines and do not dig in marked areas. Contact yourlocal marking service or utility company to have theproperty marked (for example, in the United States,call 811 for the nationwide marking service).DANGERThe moving teeth and auger will cut or sever yourhands, feet, or other body parts.• Keep hands, feet, and any other part of yourbody or clothing away from moving teeth, auger,or other parts.• Before adjusting, cleaning, repairing, orinspecting the trencher, lower the trencher to theground, shut off the engine, wait for all movingparts to stop, and remove the key.WARNINGWhen the engine is off, an attachment in the raisedposition can gradually lower. Someone belowthe attachment may be pinned or injured by theattachment as it lowers.Always lower the attachment each time you shutoff the machine.WARNINGWhen going up or down hill, the machine couldoverturn if the heavy end is toward the downhillside. Someone may be pinned or seriously injuredby the machine if it overturns.Operate the machine up and down slopes withthe heavy end of the machine uphill. An attachedtrencher makes the back end of the machine heavy.WARNINGLightning can cause severe injury or death.If lightning is seen or thunder is heard in the area,do not operate the machine; seek shelter.CAUTIONHydraulic fluid escaping under pressure canpenetrate skin and cause injury. Fluid injected intothe skin must be surgically removed within a fewhours by a doctor familiar with this form of injury;otherwise, gangrene may result.• Keep your body and hands away from pin-holeleaks or nozzles that eject high-pressurehydraulic fluid.• Use cardboard or paper to find hydraulic leaks;never use your hands.CAUTIONHydraulic fittings, hydraulic lines/valves, andhydraulic fluid may be hot and can burn you if youtouch them.• Wear gloves when maintaining hydrauliccomponents.• Allow the traction unit and trencher to coolbefore touching hydraulic components.• Do not touch hydraulic fluid spills.3 |
