Steering Selection (4 wheeldrive models only)For maximum trimming and minimum turf damage themachine should always be operated in 4 wheel steering.However, when it is desired to transport the machine on roadsor trails, the machine can be switched into 2 wheel steering.Figure 131. Steering selector switchSwitching from 4 wheel steering to 2wheel steeringPress the steering selector switch (Figure 13) to the forwardposition. If the wheels are not aligned in the forward position,the green light will flash and the machine will remain in4 wheel steering until the four tires are directed straightahead. The operator should turn the steering wheel slowly tostraighten out the wheels until the green light ceases to flashand remains ON. When the switch light is solid green, themachine is in 2 wheel steering.Note: If the steering wheel is turned too briskly, steeringmisalignment may occur.Switching from 2 wheel steering to 4wheel steeringPress the steering selector switch (Figure 13) to the rearwardposition. If the front wheels are not aligned in the forwardposition, the green light will flash and the machine will remainin 2 wheel steering until the four tires are directed straightahead. The operator should turn the steering wheel slowly tostraighten out the wheels until the green light ceases to flashand remains OFF. If the steering wheel is turned too briskly,steering misalignment may occur. When the switch light iscontinuously OFF, the machine is in 4 wheel steering.Note: If the steering system is misaligned after repeated2 wheel steering to 4 wheel steering engagements, refer toCorrecting Steering Misalignment in the Maintenance Section.Stopping the MachineTo stop the machine, release the traction pedal to the neutralposition.Set the parking brake whenever you leave the machine.Remember to remove the key from the ignition switch.CAUTIONChildren or bystanders may be injured if theyattempt to move or operate the tractor while it isunattended.Always remove the ignition key and set the parkingbrake when leaving the machine unattended, evenif just for a few minutes.Operating the MowerRaising and Lowering the MowerThe deck lift switch raises and lowers the mower deck (Figure14). The engine must be running for you to use this switch.Figure 141. Doing so will damagethe hydraulic system.Note: To lock the mower deck in a raised position, raise thedeck past the 15 cm (6 inch) position, remove the height of cutstop pin (refer to Adjusting the Height-of-Cut), and place thepin in the 15 cm (6 inch) height-of-cut position (Figure 16).Engaging the Power Take Off (PTO)The power take off (PTO) switch starts and stops the mowerblades and some powered attachments.23
