1. Measure the center-to-center distance (at axleheight) at the front and rear of the steeringtires. The front measurement must be 1/4 inch(6 mm) less than the rear measurement.2. To adjust, loosen the clamps at both ends ofthe tie rods.3. Rotate the tie rod end to move the front of thetire inward or outward.4. Clean them more frequently in dirtyconditions.1. Turn the engine off and raise the hood. Cleanthe engine area thoroughly of all debris.2. Remove the knobs (Figure 62) securing the oilcooler to the frame.Figure 621. Knobs3. Pivot the oil cooler rearward. Clean both sidesof the oil cooler and radiator area (Figure 63)thoroughly with compressed air.Important: Cleaning the radiator or oilcooler with water can promote prematurecorrosion and damage to components.Figure 631. Oil cooler 2. Radiator4. Pivot the oil cooler back into position. Secureit to the frame with the knobs and close thehood.Brake MaintenanceAdjusting the Service BrakesAdjust the service brakes when there is more than1 inch (25 mm) of “free travel” of the brake pedal,or when the brakes do not work effectively. Freetravel is the distance the brake pedal moves beforebraking resistance is felt.1. Disengage the locking latch from the brakepedals so that both pedals work independentlyof each other.2. To reduce free travel of the brake pedals, tighten the brakes:A. Loosen the front nut on the threaded endof the brake cable.B. Tighten the rear nut to move the cablebackward until the brake pedals have 1/2to 1 inch (13 to 25 mm) of free travel.C. Tighten the front nuts after the brakes areadjusted correctly.Belt MaintenanceServicing the Alternator BeltCheck the condition and tension of the belts(Figure 64) after every 100 operating hours.45
