SafetyImproper use or maintenance by the operator or ownercan result in injury. To reduce the potential for injury,comply with these safety instructions and alwayspay attention to the safety-alert symbol , whichmeans:Caution,Warning, orDanger—personal safetyinstruction. Failure to comply with the instruction mayresult in personal injury or death.Safe Operating PracticesThis product is capable of amputating hands and feet. Alwaysfollow all safety instructions to avoid serious injury or death.WARNINGEngine exhaust contains carbon monoxide, anodorless, deadly poison that can kill you.Do not run the engine indoors or in an enclosedarea.Training• Read the Operator's Manual and other training material. Ifthe operator(s) or mechanic(s) cannot read English, it isthe owner's responsibility to explain this material to them.• Become familiar with the safe operation of the equipment,operator controls, and safety signs.• All operators and mechanics should be trained. Theowner is responsible for training the users.• Never let children or untrained people operate or servicethe equipment. Local regulations may restrict the age ofthe operator.• The owner/user can prevent and is responsible foraccidents or injuries occurring to himself or herself, otherpeople or property.PreparationDANGERThere may be buried power, gas, and/or telephonelines in the work area. Shock or explosion mayoccur if you dig into them.Have the property or work area marked for buriedlines and do not dig in marked areas. Contact yourlocal marking service or utility company to have theproperty marked (for example, in Australia, call 1100for the nationwide marking service).• Evaluate the terrain to determine what accessories andattachments are needed to properly and safely performthe job. Use only accessories and attachments approvedby the manufacturer.• Wear appropriate clothing including safety glasses, longpants, safety shoes, and hearing protection. Tie back longhair. Do not wear jewelry.• Inspect the area where the equipment is to be used andremove all objects such as rocks, toys, and wire which canbe thrown by the machine.• Use extra care when handling fuels. They are flammableand vapors are explosive.– Use only an approved container– Never remove the fuel cap or add fuel with the enginerunning. Allow the engine to cool before refueling.Do not smoke.– Never refuel or drain the machine indoors.• Check that the operator's presence controls, safetyswitches, and shields are attached and functioningproperly. Do not operate unless they are functioningproperly.Operation• Only operate in good light, keeping away from holes andhidden hazards.• Be sure all drives are in neutral and parking brake isengaged before starting the engine. Start the engine onlyfrom the operator's position.• Slow down and use extra care on hillsides. Be sure totravel in the recommended direction on hillsides. Turfconditions can affect the machine's stability.• Slow down and use caution when making turns and whenchanging directions on slopes.• Do not change the engine governor setting or overspeedthe engine.• Stop on level ground, lower implements, disengage theauxiliary hydraulics, engage parking brake, shut off theengine, and remove the key before leaving the operator'sposition for any reason.• Keep hands and feet away from moving attachments.• Look behind and down before backing up to be sure ofa clear path.• Never carry passengers and keep pets and bystandersaway.• Slow down and use caution when making turns andcrossing roads and sidewalks.• Do not operate the machine while ill, tired, or under theinfluence of alcohol or drugs.• Use care when loading or unloading the machine into atrailer or truck.• Use care when approaching blind corners, shrubs, trees,or other objects that may obscure vision.• Read all attachment manuals.4 |
