Getting Started10 - EnglishStep 6 Finalizing & Playing onother DVD componentsTo play your DVD on other DVD components,finalizing may be necessary. First, finish all editing andrecording operations, then finalize the disc.When using a DVD-RW disc in VR ModeAlthough finalizing is generally unnecessary whenplaying the disc on a VR Mode compatiblecomponent, a finalized disc should be used forplayback.When using a DVD-RW disc in Video ModeThe disc should be fi nalized fi rst to enable playbackon other DVD players. No more editing or recordingcan be made on the disc once it has been finalized.When using a DVD±R discThe disc should be fi nalized fi rst to enable playbackon other DVD players. No more editing or recordingcan be made on the disc once it has been fi nalized.Step 3 RecordingThere are two different recording methods, DirectRecording (recording a program you are currentlywatching) and Timer Recording. Timer recording isdetermined as a Date : MM/DD, MON-FRI, EverySAT, etc. There are 5 recording modes: XP (highquality mode), SP (standard quality mode), LP (longrecording mode), EP (extended mode) and FRmode. When using FR mode to record, the picturequality is determined by the remaining time on thedisc.Step 4 PlayingTo start playback select the title you want to play fromthe title list.A DVD consists of sections called titles, and subsections called chapters.During recording, a title is created between two pointswhere you start and stop recording. Chapters will becreated automatically when you finalize recording onDVD-R/DVD-RW discs in Video mode.You can make your own chapters on DVD+RWs andedit them using the Chapter Edit menu.The chapter’s length (interval between chapters)varies according to the recording mode.Step 5 Editing a recorded discEditing on discs is easier than editing on conventionalvideo tapes. The recorder supports many different editfunctions, possible only with DVDs.With a simple and easy edit menu, you can operatevarious edit functions, such as delete, copy, rename,lock, etc., on a recorded title.With this recorder, you can create playlists using aDVD-RAM/DVD-RW in VR mode. Once a playlist iscreated you can create/edit a new playlist on the samedisc without changing the original recording. You can finalize automatically using the EZ RECMODE. (See page 47)NOTE
