You canchoose to listen to sources with no surround backchannel information, or if the material sounds better inthe format (for example, 5.1) for which it was originallyencoded, you can have the receiver only apply this effectto 6.1 encoded sources like Dolby Digital EX or DTS-ES. 11 Open the ‘Sound Setup’ menu.2 Select ‘Virtual SB’, then press ENTER.3 Select a setting.Select one of the following:• Vir.SB On – Virtual Surround Back is always used (forexample, on 5.1 encoded material)• Vir.SB Auto – Virtual Surround Back is automaticallyapplied to 6.1 encoded sources (for example, DolbyDigital EX or DTS-ES), DTS Neo:6 or AdvancedSurround mode• Vir.SB Off – Virtual Surround Back mode is switchedoff4 Press to exit.LFE AttenuateSome Dolby Digital and DTS audio sources include ultra-low bass tones.Set the LFE attenuator as necessary to prevent the ultra-low bass tones from distorting the sound from thespeakers. The LFE is not limited when set to 0dB, which is therecommended value. When set to -5dB, -10dB, -15dB or-20dB, the LFE is limited by the respective degree. WhenOff is selected, no sound is output from the LFE channel.1 Open the ‘Sound Setup’ menu.2 Select ‘LFE ATT’, then press ENTER.3 Adjust the setting then press ENTER toconfirm.Adjusting the channel levels usingthe test toneIf you prefer, you can set the channel levels using a testtone as a reference, rather than playing a source (seeChannel level setting on page 37). A test tone is playedthrough each speaker in turn, allowing you to adjust thelevel as it plays. You can also adjust the channel levels for surroundsound using test tone.1 Carry out tone testing. The test tone is output from each speaker in turn.Adjust the volume level below 50.2 Adjust the channel level of a tune while itis playing. The aim is to adjust the levels so that you hear the testtone at the same volume from each speaker. You canadjust the level of each channel by ±10 dB.• You can adjust the overall volume of test tone outputusing the VOL +/– buttons (this does not affect thechannel level settings).• Because of the ultra low frequencies the subwooferproduces, it may sound quieter than it really is. Wesuggest adjusting the subwoofer level while listeningto a source. See the method described in Channellevel setting on page 37.3 Press to exit test tone setup once you havefinished.• If you use the Auto MCACC feature again, it willoverwrite the settings you have made here.Note1 Depending on the input signal and the listening mode, the Virtual Surround Back mode may not be effective.SETUPENTERENTERENTERSETUPENTERENTERENTERTESTTONEENTER
