3.1 Connecting the IPCMPR Card to the LANRefer to the following example to connect the IPCMPR card to the LAN.When the IPCMPR card is connected to the LAN for the first time, you must assign IP addressing informationto the card. Refer to "4.3 Programming the IPCMPR Card" for instructions.Note• Use an Ethernet straight cable with an RJ45 connector to connect the IPCMPR card to a switchinghub. The cable should be a 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX CAT 5 (Category 5) or higher cable.• Before connecting the IPCMPR card, attach the included ferrite core to the cable.• Make sure to set the port of the switching hub that connects to the IPCMPR card to operateunder "Auto Negotiation" mode.• When using the VLAN feature on the network, make sure that the IPCMPR card is connected to a layer2 switch that is IEEE 802.1Q compliant, and that is configured for VLANs. In addition, the port of theswitching hub to which the IPCMPR card is connected must be set to "Untagged". Consult your networkadministrator for details.Attaching a ferrite core to the cable1. Wrap the cable once around the ferrite core, leaving 3 cm (1-3/16 in) between the ferrite core and theconnector.2. Close the case of the ferrite core.3 cm(1-3/16 in)NoteIf you need to open the ferrite core, use a flathead screwdriver to unlatch the case.26 IP Networking Guide Document Version 2009-123.1 Connecting the IPCMPR Card to the LAN
