Otherwisethe appliance may be damaged.1. Deploy the appliance fully (see“Deployment system”).2. In the drink selection menu, selectEspresso.3. Press z (6).4. While the grinding unit is running, adjustthe rotary selector (11) from fine tocoarse or back as required.The new setting will not becomeapparent until after the second cupof coffee.For dark roast coffee beans,choose a finer grind, for lighterbeans a coarser grind.Checking the water hardnessThe water hardness setting can be adjustedon this appliance. It is important to set thewater hardness correctly, so that the appli-ance indicates accurately when the descal-ing programme should be run. The factorysetting for the water hardness is 4.You can check the water hardness using theenclosed test strip or by asking your localwater supplier.Dip the test strip briefly in water, gentlyshake off any drips, and check the resultafter one minute.Water hardness levels and settings:Level Water hardnessGerman (°dH) French (°fH)12341 - 78 - 1415 - 2122 - 301 - 1314 - 2526 - 3839 - 54Tips on energy saving► After approx. 30 minutes (factory setting),the appliance will switch off automaticallyand will not require any more energy.► The default time can be shortened(see “Auto off after” under “Displayingsettings”).► If the appliance is not in use, switch it byretracting the navigation button (4).X If possible, do not interrupt coffee or milkfroth dispensing. Stopping a processprematurely results in higher energy con-sumption and the drip tray fills up morequickly.X Always descale the appliance whenService - descale is displayed (see“Descaling”) to avoid a build-up of lime-scale. Limescale residue results in higherenergy consumption.
