14 ENGLISHInstalling or removing the grass basketTo install the grass basket, follow the steps below.1. Open the rear cover.► Fig.4: 1. Rear cover2. Hold the handle of the grass basket, and then installthe grass basket by inserting the rod of the grass basketinto the grooves on the machine as shown in the figure.► Fig.5: 1. Grass basket 2. Handle 3. RodTo remove the grass basket, open the rear cover, andthen remove the grass basket by holding the handle.FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTIONCAUTION: Always be sure that the machineis switched off and the battery cartridges areremoved before adjusting or checking function onthe machine.Applications of scarifier bladesVertical cutterThe vertical cutter removes the thatch and moss fromthe lawns and cut the roots of lawns vertically. The verti-cal cutter loosens the soil and increases the aeration oflawns, and let the water go into the roots of lawns andprevent the water from staying on the surface.► Fig.6Thatching bladesThe thatching blades remove the thatch and mossesfrom the lawns without cutting the roots of lawns.► Fig.7Installing or removing battery cartridgeCAUTION: Always switch off the machinebefore installing or removing of the batterycartridge.CAUTION: Hold the machine and the batterycartridge firmly when installing or removing bat-tery cartridge. Failure to hold the machine and thebattery cartridge firmly may cause them to slip offyour hands and result in damage to the machine andbattery cartridge and a personal injury.CAUTION: Make sure that you lock the batterycover before use. Otherwise, mud, dirt, or water maycause damage to the product or the battery cartridge.CAUTION: Always install the battery cartridgefully. If not, it may accidentally fall out of the machine,causing injury to you or someone around you.CAUTION: Do not install the battery cartridgeforcibly. If the cartridge does not slide in easily, it isnot being inserted correctly.CAUTION: Hold the battery cover firmly wheninstalling or removing the battery cartridge.To install the battery cartridge;1. Pull up the locking lever, and then open the battery cover.► Fig.8: 1. Battery cover 2. Locking lever2. Align the tongue on the battery cartridge with theslot on the machine, and then slide the cartridge until itlocks in place with a little click.► Fig.9: 1. Battery cartridge3. Close the battery cover and push it until it islatched with the locking lever.To remove the battery cartridge;1. Pull up the locking lever and open the battery cover.2. Pull out the battery cartridge from the machinewhile sliding the button on the front of the cartridge.3. Close the battery cover.Machine / battery protection systemThe machine is equipped with a machine/battery protectionsystem. This system automatically cuts off power to themotor to extend machine and battery life. The machine willautomatically stop during operation if the machine or bat-tery is placed under one of the following conditions:Overload protectionWhen the battery is operated in a manner that causesit to draw an abnormally high current, the machineautomatically stops and the main power lamp blinks ingreen. In this situation, turn the machine off and stopthe application that caused the machine to becomeoverloaded. Then turn the machine on to restart.Overheat protectionWhen the machine is overheated, the machine stops automati-cally and the main power lamp lights up in red. In this case, let themachine and batteries cool before turning the machine on again.NOTE: When the battery is overheated, the mainpower lamp blinks in red.Overdischarge protectionWhen the battery capacity is not enough, the machine stopsautomatically and the main power lamp blinks in red. In this case,remove the battery from the machine and charge the batterycartridges or change the battery cartridges to fully charged ones.Protections against other causesProtection system is also designed for other causes thatcould damage the machine and allows the machine tostop automatically. Take all the following steps to clearthe causes, when the machine has been brought to atemporary halt or stop in operation.1. Turn the machine off, and then turn it on again to restart.2. Charge the battery(ies) or replace it/them withrecharged battery(ies).3. Let the machine and battery(ies) cool down.If no improvement can be found by restoring protectionsystem, then contact your local Makita Service Center.NOTICE: If the machine stops due to a causenot described above, refer to the section fortroubleshooting. |
