• Audio line-out connectorUsed to send audio signals from the computer to external devices, such as powered stereo speakers,headphones, or multimedia keyboards. To attach a stereo system or other external recording device, acable is connected between the audio line-in connector of the device and the audio line-out connectorof the computer.Note: If your computer has both an audio line-out connector and a headset connector or headphoneconnector, always use the headset connector or headphone connector for earphones, headphones, or aheadset. However, a headphone connector does not support the microphone of a headset.• Ethernet connectorUsed to connect an Ethernet cable for a local area network (LAN).Note: To operate the computer within Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Class B limits, use aCategory 5e or better Ethernet cable.• HDMI connectorUsed to deliver uncompressed high-definition video and multichannel digital audio signals through asingle cable. A high-performance monitor, a direct drive monitor, or another audio or video device thatuses a High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) connector can be attached to this HDMI connector.• Microphone connectorUsed to connect a microphone to your computer when you want to record sound or if you usespeech-recognition software.• Padlock loopFor information, see “Locking the computer cover” on page 53.• PCI Express card area (different cards provide different connectors)To improve the operating performance of your computer, you can connect PCI Express cards into thisarea.
