When this Ethernet switch is connected to anetwork segment where one or more routers connected, the Ethernet switch will be assignedan address known as Global Unicast Address by the router(s). Being assigned the GlobalUnicast Address, the Ethernet switch can then have access to different network segments.Link-Local Address: A display-only field. Link-Local Address is for use during auto-configuration and when no any router presents. Being assigned the Link-Local Address, theEthernet switch can have access to all hosts on the same local segment to where it belongs.IP configuration—IPv65.2.4 DHCP ServerDHCP or Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol is a protocol for assigning dynamic IP addressesto devices on a network. With dynamic addressing, a device can have a different IP addressevery time it connects to the network. In some systems, the device's IP address can evenchange while it is still connected. DHCP also supports a mix of static and dynamic IPaddresses. Dynamic addressing simplifies network administration because the software keepstrack of IP addresses rather than requiring an administrator to manage the task. This meansthat a new computer can be easily added to a network without the hassle of manuallyassigning it a unique IP address. The system provides the DHCP server function. With the DHCP server function enabled, theswitch system is able to be configured as a DHCP server.System Configuration• DHCP Server: This pull-down menu allows you to configure the switch to be the DHCPserver on your local network.• Low IP Address: Type in an IP address as the beginning of a range of the dynamic IPaddress. As the figure shown overleaf, for example, 192.168.16.100 is the relatively lowIP address of the range.
