Magnum 1000 Workgroup Hubs Installation and User Guide (04/02)16www GarrettCom com. .2.4.8 BPM-BNCThe Magnum BPM-BNCbridge module is equipped with astandard 10BASE2 coax connector. This BPM is self-learning and filtersand forwards packets at full Ethernetwire speed. This module is used for10BASE2 ThinNet (commonlyreferred to as BNC) connections and is Magnum BPM-BNCdesigned to isolate the local segment (i.e., the users and devices connected to theMagnum unit housing the BPM) from the connecting network (i.e., the users anddevices connected through the BPMís media connector). The BPM-BNC module is designed with a special switch -selectable internaltermination function that eliminates the need for a "tee" connector and a 50 ohmterminator. For switch details, refer to RPM-BNC, section 2.4.1. The BPM-BNCmodule includes an FWD-I LED and an FWD-X LED, which are visible from theexterior. The FWD-I LED blinks GREEN to indicate that packets are being forwardedINTO the local Magnum hub. The FWD-X LED blinks GREEN to indicate that packetsare being forwarded OUT of the local Magnum hub.2.4.9 BPM-AUIThis local-bridge module isequipped with a 15 pin female AUIconnector and a slide-lock. It is self-learning and filters and forwardspackets at full Ethernet wire speed. Itis used to provide segment isolationfrom a 10BASE5 (ThickNet) backbone or any Magnum BPM-AUIAUI segment. A transceiver is required when connecting to a ThickNet segment andthe BPM-AUI supports this convention. The BPM-AUI is equipped with one FWD-I LED and one FWD-I LED, whichare identical to those of the BPM-BNC (see Section 2.4.9). The BPM-AUI connectorsupports standard IEEE signals, which are summarized in Table 3.3.2 of Section 3.3.2.Standard BNC10BASE2 ConnectorInternal TerminationSlide Switch12FWD-X LEDFWD-I LED21FWD-X LEDFWD-I LED21Standard 15-pinfemale AUIwith slide-lock1 2
