To initialize the receiver:1. If the ‘COUNTRY’ option is not highlighted, press theD key repeatedly to move the field highlight to the‘COUNTRY’ option.2. Press the E key.3. Use theD key to scroll through the list options untilthe country of your present location appears. If thecountry you’re in is not listed, select another countrywithin 500 miles of your presentposition.4. Use theU key to highlight the country/state/regionyou’re in.5. Press E to finish.The GPS 48 now begins searching for the appropri-ate satellites for your location and should acquire aposition within 3-5 minutes. You can verify that youhave acquired a position by watching the Satellite Pagetransition to the Position Page (provided you haven’tpressed any other buttons) or by looking for a ‘2DNAV’ or ‘3D NAV’ status at the top-left corner of theSatellite Page.Initialization TroubleshootingIf you have trouble initializing the receiver oracquiring a position, check the following:• Does the unit have a clear view of the sky?If there are large buildings or mountains nearby, orif there is heavy tree cover, the receiver may not bereceiving enough satellite signals to calculate aposition.• Have you selected the right country/state/regionfrom the EZinit list?Check for the correct approximate lat/lon on thePosition Page, or reselect the appropriate countryfrom the list to restart the initialization.• Have you moved more than 500 miles from thelast calculated position with the receiver off?Reinitialize the receiver, selecting the country/state/region of your new location from the EZinit list.Your unit should now be initialized.7GETTINGSTARTEDInitializing theReceiverThe EZinit prompt willautomatically appear if thereceiver needs to be initial-ized.
