System Setup: ModeThe system setup page is used to select the operat-ing mode, time offset, and screen preferences. The GPS12 has two operating modes:• Normal Mode operates the unit at maximumperformance, and provides battery life of up to 24hours on alkaline batteries.• Simulator Mode allows you to operate the unitwithout acquiring satellites, and is ideal for prac-ticing, or entering waypoints and routes while athome.To select an operating mode:1. Highlight the ‘MODE’ field, and press E.2. Select a mode and press E.System Setup: OffsetThe date and time offset is located directly belowthe mode field. Note: Date and time information isderived from the GPS satellites and cannot be changedby the user. Because the time shown is UTC (GreenwichMean Time) time, you will need to enter a time offset todisplay the correct local time for your area. To deter-mine the time offset for your area, note your positionand refer to the chart in Appendix C.To enter the time offset:1. Highlight the ‘OFFSET’ field, and press E.2. Enter the time offset, and press E.
