9TAKEOFF TOUR190-00356-00 Rev BSelecting COM and VLOC FrequenciesWhile the 400W-series unit is acquiring a position,let’s take a minute to dial in the active and standbyfrequencies you’ll be using for the first phase of yourflight. The 400W-series display is divided into separate“windows” (or screen areas), including a COM window,VLOC window, and the GPS window.COM Window:Active Frequency COM Window:Standby Frequencywith tuning cursorVLOC Window:Active FrequencyPushing the small left knob activates the tuningcursor in the desired frequency window. To select theactive frequency, you must first enter the frequencyin the standby field, and use the COM flip-flop (orVLOC flip-flop) key to move it to the active field.To change the standby communication (COM) orVLOC frequency:1. If the tunng cursor s not currently n thedesred wndow (COM or VLOC), press thesmall left knob momentarly to swtch thehghlght between the COM and VLOC wn-dows. Adjustng the frequences wth the largeand small left knobs wll affect the standbyfrequency.2. Turn the large left knob to select the desredmegahertz (MHz) value. For example, the“135” porton of the frequency “135.325”.3. Turn the small left knob to select the desredklohertz (kHz) value. For example, the “.325”porton of the frequency “135.325”.4. To actvate the selected frequency, press theapproprate flip-flop key—COM for commu-ncaton frequences or VLOC for VOR/Localzerfrequences.Once you’ve entered the active frequency, simplyrepeat steps 1 through 3, above, to enter the standbyfrequency. After both communication frequencies havebeen entered, you may elect to keep the COM window‘hot’ by leaving the cursor on the standby frequency, ormove the cursor to the VLOC window by pressing thesmall left knob.Once you’ve entered the active frequency, simplyrepeat steps 1 to 3, above, to enter the standby fre-quency.
