20Be sure electrical power is off and all surfaces are cool before cleaning any part of the range.If your range is removed for cleaning, servicing or any reason, be sure the anti-tipdevice is reengaged properly when the range is replaced. Failure to take this precautioncould result in tipping of the range and cause injury.Care and cleaning of the range.Standard Twin Burner Assemblies (on some models)On models with standard twin burners, thecooktop lifts up for easy access.Turn all controls OFF before removing burnerparts and drip pans (if so equipped).The burner grates and drip pans (if soequipped) can be lifted off, making themeasy to clean.The holes in the surface burners of yourrange must be kept clean at all times forproper ignition and an even, unhamperedflame.You should clean the surface burnersroutinely, especially after bad spillovers,which could clog these holes.Wipe off surface burners. If heavy spilloveroccurs, remove the surface burners from therange. Burners lift out for cleaning. Lift up thecooktop and then lift out the surface burners.To remove burned-on food, soak the surfaceburner in a solution of mild liquid detergentand hot water. Soak the surface burner for20–30 minutes.For more stubborn stains, use a cleanser likeSoft Scrub® brand or Bon Ami® brand. Rinsewell to remove any traces of the cleanserthat might clog the surface burner openings.Do not use steel wool because it will clogthe surface burner openings and scratch thesurface burners. If the holes become clogged,clean them with a sewing needle or twist-tie.Before putting the surface burner back, shakeout excess water and then dry it thoroughlyby setting it in a warm oven for 30 minutes.Then place it back in the range, making sureit is properly seated and level.Check the flame pattern of each burner. Ifthe flames are “jumpy” (not steady), clean theholes again with a sewing needle or twist-tie.GrateDrip pan (if so equipped)Surface burnerCAUTION:Do not operate the cooktop without allburner parts, drip pans (if so equipped)and grates in place.Clean these holes thoroughly on eachburner.Drip Pans (if so equipped)Remove the grates and lift out the drip pans.Drip pans can be cleaned in a dishwasher orby hand.When replacing the drip pans, make surethey are in the correct position.To get rid of burned-on food, place themin a covered container (or plastic bag)with 1/4 cup ammonia to loosen the soil.Then scrub with a soap-filled scouringpad if necessary.CAUTION: Do not cleanthe drip pans in a self-cleaning oven.For cleaning information on sealedburners, see next section.
