does not start, refer to TROUBLE-SHOOTING TABLE. If still unable toremedy situation, call1-800-235-5878.Idle SpeedAllow engine to idle. If the trimmer headmoves, idle speed is too fast. If the en-gine stalls, idle speed is too slow.• Turn idle speed screw clockwise toincrease engine speed.• Turn idle speed screw counterclock-wise to decrease engine speed.Low Speed Mixture Adjustment - L1. Allow the engine to idle.2. Turn low speed mixture screw (L)slowly clockwise until the speed be-gins to drop.3. Turn the low speed mixture screw(L) counterclockwise until the speedincreases and then starts to dropagain.4. Set the low speed mixture screw (L)at the midpoint between the twopositions.Readjust the idle speed (See IDLESPEED).High Speed Mixture Adjustment - HCAUTION: Do not operate engine atfull throttle for prolonged periods whilemaking adjustments as damage to theengine can occur. Adjust the mixturescrew 1/16 of a turn at a time. A 1/16turn is about the width of the slot in thetop of the screw.1. Allow the engine to idle.2. Squeeze the throttle trigger fully.Turn the high speed mixture screw(H) counterclockwise until it stops.3. Turn the high speed mixture screw(H) 1/16 of a turn clockwise at atime until the engine runs smoothly. After completing adjustments, checkfor acceleration and trimmer headmovement at idle. Reset if necessary.Acceleration CheckIf engine dies or hesitates instead ofaccelerating, turn the low speed mix-ture screw (L) counterclockwise untilyou have smooth acceleration._WARNING: Perform the follow-ing steps after each use:• Allow engine to cool before storingor transporting.• Store unit and fuel in a well venti-lated area where fuel vapors cannotreach sparks or open flames fromwater heaters, electric motors orswitches, furnaces, etc.• Store unit with all guards in place.Position unit so that any sharp ob-ject cannot accidentally cause injury.• Store unit and fuel well out of thereach of children.SEASONAL STORAGEPrepare unit for storage at end of sea-son or if it will not be used for 30 daysor more.If your unit is to be stored for a periodof time:• Clean the entire unit before lengthystorage.• Store in a clean dry area.• Lightly oil external metal surfaces.FUEL SYSTEMUnder FUELING ENGINE in the OPERA-TION section of this manual, see mes-sage labeled IMPORTANT regardingthe use of gasohol in your engine.Fuel stabilizer is an acceptable alter-native in minimizing the formation offuel gum deposits during storage. Addstabilizer to the gasoline in the fueltank or fuel storage container. Followthe mix instructions found on stabilizercontainer. Run engine at least 5 min-utes after adding stabilizer.Craftsman 40:1,2-cycle engine oil (aircooled) is already blended with fuelstabilizer. If you do not use this Searsoil, you can add a fuel stabilizer toyour fuel tank.ENGINE• Remove spark plug and pour 1 tea-spoon of 40:1,2-cycle engine oil (aircooled) through the spark plugopening. Slowly pull the starter rope8 to 10 times to distribute oil.• Replace spark plug with new one ofrecommended type and heat range.• Clean air filter.• Check entire unit for loose screws, nuts, and bolts. Replace any dam-aged, broken, or worn parts.• At the beginning of the next season, use only fresh fuel having the propergasoline to oil ratio.OTHER• Do not store gasoline from one sea-son to another.• Replace your gasoline can if it startsto rust.15
