18OFF-SEASON STORAGEPrepare your log splitter for storage at the end of the season or if thelog splitter will not be used for 30 days or more.WARNINGNever store the machine with fuel in the fuel tank inside of buildingwhere fumes may reach an open flame or spark or where ignitionsources are present such as hot water and space heaters, furnaces, clothes dyers, stoves, electric motors, etc.NOTE: A yearly check-up by your local Sears service center is a goodway to ensure your log splitter will provide the maximum performancenext season.LoG SpLITTERClean the log splitter thoroughly.1.Wipe the log splitter with an oiled rag to prevent rust, especially2.on the wedge and the beam.ENGINENOTE: It is important to prevent gum deposits from forming in theessential fuel system parts such as the carburetor, fuel filter, fuel hoseor tank during storage. Also, alcohol blended fuels (called gasohol orusing ethanol or methanol) can attract moisture which leads to separa-tion and formation of acids during storage. Acidic gas can damage thefuel system of an engine while in storage.Drain the fuel tank by running the engine until the fuel lines and1.carburetor are empty. Always drain the fuel into an approvedcontainer outdoors away from open flame. Be sure the engine iscool. Do not smoke while handling the fuel.NOTE: Never use engine or carburetor cleaner products in the fueltank or permanent damage may occur. Use fresh fuel next season.Remove the spark plug, pour approximately2. 1⁄2 oz. of engine oilinto cylinder and crank it slowly to distribute the oil.Replace the spark plug.3.FuEL STAbILIZERNOTE: Fuel stabilizer is an acceptable alternative in minimizing theformation of fuel gum deposits during storage. Please follow the instructions below for storing your log splitter withfuel and stabilizer in the engine:Add stabilizer to the gasoline in the fuel tank or storage container.1.Always follow the mix ratio found on the stabilizer container.Run the engine at least 10 minutes after adding stabilizer to allow2.the stabilizer to reach the carburetor.NOTE: Do not drain the gas tank and carburetor if using fuel stabilizer.Drain all the oil from the crankcase (this should be done after theengine has been operated and is still warm) and refill the crankcasewith fresh oil.oThERDo not store the gasoline from one season to another.•Replace your gasoline can if it starts to rust.•Store the log splitter in a clean, dry area. Do not store it next to•any corrosive materials, such as fertilizer.Wipe the equipment with an oiled rag to prevent rust.•
