OiL FiLL CAP & DIPSTICKEngineoil levelcan be checkedand oil addedthroughtheoil fill.NOTE:This unitwas shippedWITHOUToil in the engine.Oil isincludedin the plasticbag packedwith the manualin with the unit.Add theoil as directedin theGas & Oil Fill Up section.Checkthe oillevelbeforeeachoperationto ensureadequateoil is in the engine.Forfurther instructions,referto the stepsin the EngineMaintenancesectionof this manual.SHIFT LEVER/SHIFT LEVER INDICATORBRACKETTheshift leveris locatedon the handleassembly,it is usedto selectNEUTRAL,REVERSE,or one of the three FORWARDmodesbypullingup or pushingdownon the shiftleverand placingthe shiftleverindicatorbracketin the desiredposition.The gear positions are:WheelsForward(No TineAction)_' -- Thewheelsmoveforward,butthe tinesare stationary.WheelsForward/TinesReverse_"_ -- Thewheels moveforwardand the tines rotatein reverse(backwards).This gear settingis forground-breakingtillingand hard soil.WheelForward/TinesForward_ -- Thewheelsmoveforwardandthetinesmoveforward.Thisgearsettingisforcultivatingandtillingsoftsoil.Neutral[_ -- All movement(wheelsand tines) is stopped.This gearis for startingand pushingthe tiller.Reverse[_-- Thewheelsmovein reverse,butthe tinesare stationary.CLUTCH LEVERTheclutchleveris locatedon theleft handle.Squeezingtheclutchleveragainstthehandleengagesthewheelandthe drivemechanisms.DEPTH STAKEThis levercontrolsthe tillingdepthof the tines.Pull thecotter pin outfrom theclevis pin to adjustthe tillingdepthto five differentsettings.SWING LEVERThesteeringhandlecan be swivelledin eitherdirection.This enablesthe tillerto be guided to the next row.Releasethesteeringhandleby pullingup on the swinglever.Swivelthe handleintothe desiredpositionand releasethe handleto lock into place.HANDLE ADJUSTMENT LOCKThe handlemay be adjustedto the heightdesiredby unlockingtheHandleAdjustmentLock,then movingthe handlebarsto the desiredpositionand then re-lockingthe HandleAdjustmentLock.The handleshouldbe adjustedso that whenthetiller is digging3 to 4 inches intothe soil, the handlefalls to aboutwaist-high.REAR TINE SHIELDThe rear fine shieldprotectsthe operatorfromflying debriswhilealsosmoothingoutfreshlytilled soil.SIDE SHIELDThe side shieldis usedto maintaincleareven rowsand may beadjustedto one of five differentpositions.TINESYourfiller's tinesare a series of bladesarrangedon a revolvingpower-drivenshaft.TO START ENGINEElectric StarterDeterminethatyour home'swiringis a three-wiregroundedsystem.Ask a licensedelectricianif youare notcertain.If you havea groundedthree-prongreceptacle,proceedas follows:1.
