For details, refer to “Cleaning Your Printer” in the Quick Start Guide.Cassette LoadingYou can load paper in both the Rear Tray andCassette.NoteAt purchase, the printer is set to feed from theRear Tray.a Pull out the cassette from thebottom of the printer.CassetteCoverb Remove the cover of the cassette.c For A5 or larger sized paper, pullthe tab towards you to unlock andextend the cassette.TabA5 or larger(nonstandard-size paper: 8 inches / 203 mmor more in length)5" x 7" or smaller(nonstandard-size paper: less than 8 inches /203 mm in length)d Load the paper into the cassettewith the print side facing DOWN.NoteLoading paper in the cassette providesadditional paper handling flexibility. Foradditional information, refer to the User’s Guide.a Place the printer on a flat andhorizontal surface, and do not placeany objects in front of the printer.Open the Rear Tray and extend the PaperSupport Extension. Press the Open button toopen the Paper Output Tray, and extend thePaper Output Tray Extension.CautionBefore turning on the printer, remove all the ship-ping tapes.b Plug the power cord in the back of theprinter and connect the other end to thewall outlet.ImportantDo not connect the USB cable until after thesoftware is installed.Plug the power cord all the way in, since it maybe difficult to plug.c Press the POWER button to turn on theprinter.••1 Prepare the Printerd Open the Top Cover. The Print HeadHolder moves to the center.Top Covere Open the Inner Cover.Inner Cover3 Install the Ink Tanks 4 Load Printing Paper2 Install the Print Heada Remove the Print Head from itspackage.CautionThere may be some transparent or light blue inkon the inside of the bag the print head comes in,or the inside of the protective cap - this has noeffect on print quality. Be careful not to get ink onyourself when handling these items.b Remove the orange protective cap fromthe Print Head and discard it.Print Head NozzlesElectrical ContactsProtective CapNoteDo not touch the print head nozzles and the electricalcontacts.c Firmly raise the Print Head Lock Leveruntil it stops. The Print Head LockLever may feel heavy.d Insert the Print Head.Do not touch!e Push the Print Head to hold it in place,and lower the Print Head Lock Levercarefully.ImportantIf the Top Cover is left open for more than 10minutes, the Print Head Holder moves to the right.Close and reopen the Top Cover to return theHolder to the center.NoteFor the ink tanks compatible with this printer, refer tothe back cover of the Quick Start Guide.a Pull the orange tape in the direction ofthe arrow to peel off the protective filmand remove the film completely.If the air hole is blocked with the remaining film,ink may leak out or may not eject properly.b Twist off and discard the orangeprotective cap located on the bottom ofthe ink tank.Electrical ContactsInk PortProtective CapDo not press!ImportantDo not touch the electrical contacts.Do not touch the ink port.c Insert the ink tank into the right-handslot and press the mark on the inktank until it clicks into place.d Make sure the ink lamp lights red.Install all ink tanksin order from right toleft according to thecolored label.e Close the Inner Cover and the TopCover.NoteIf the ALARM lamp on the printer flashes orange afteryou have closed the Top Cover, refer to “ALARM LampFlashes Orange” in “Troubleshooting” of the QuickStart Guide.••ImportantOnce you have installed the ink tanks, the POWERlamp will flash green. Wait for about 2 minutes,until the POWER lamp stops flashing and changesto steady, non-flashing green and the printer hasstopped making operating noises, before proceed-ing.a Pinch the Paper Guide and slide itto the left end. Load two sheets ofsupplied paper (MP-101) loaded withthe printing side (whiter side) facing UPin the Rear Tray, align the paper withthe right side of the Cover Guide, thenslide the Paper Guide against the paperstack.Paper GuidePrint SideCover GuideHardware setup is complete.
