Connecting to a ComputerExternal Connections89If you selected the camcorder itself asthe “Device to write to”, after thecamcorder finishes reading theoriginal disc, remove it and insert abrand new DVD-R or DVD-RW discinto the camcorder.8 When the “Your disc was createdsuccessfully” screen appears, click“OK”.The copied disc will be finalized andautomatically ejected from the drive.IMPORTANTTo make a copy of a disc recorded in VRmode, be certain to insert a DVD-RW disc intothe computer’s DVD drive.The software does not support writing onDVD-R DL discs.Always use a brand new disc as the targetdisc in the computer’s DVD drive or thecamcorder.If you are using a computer’s DVD drive tomake the backup copy you can also use a fullyerased DVD-RW disc. To fully erase a DVD-RWdisc you will need DVD authoring software.When you are using a DVD-RW disc as thesource disc, if the tray of a DVD drive other thanthat selected in step 5 opens when you need toinsert the target disc, some recordings on thesource disc may be lost. Click on “Cancel” andrestart the computer.Transferring Still Images - DirectTransferWith the supplied USB cable and DigitalVideo Software you can transfer stillimages to a computer. With theyou can do so simply by pressing .PreparationsThe first time you connect the camcorderto the computer, you need to install thesoftware and set the auto-launch setting.From the second time on, you will onlyneed to connect the camcorder to thecomputer to transfer images.1 Install the supplied Digital VideoSoftware.Refer to the installation guide(separate leaflet included with theCD-ROM).2 Set the camcorder tomode.3 Connect the camcorder to thecomputer using the USB cable.See Connecting the Camcorder to aComputer in the Digital VideoSoftware instruction manual(electronic version on PDF file).4 Set the auto-launch setting.• See Starting CameraWindow(Windows) or Auto-downloading(Macintosh) in the Digital VideoSoftware instruction manual (electronicversion on PDF file).• The direct transfer menu appears onthe camcorder screen and thebutton lights up.IMPORTANTCorrect performance cannot be guaranteedfor discs recorded on another digital device andinserted in this camcorder.When the DISC or CARD access indicator ison or flashing do not perform the followingactions. Doing so may result in permanent dataloss.- Do not subject the camcorder to vibrations orstrong impacts.- Do not open the disc cover/memory card slotcover and do not remove the disc or memorycard.- Do not disconnect the USB cable.- Do not turn off the camcorder or the computer.- Do not change the position of the /switch or the operating mode.Operation may not work correctly dependingon the software and the specifications/settingsof your computer.If you wish to use the image files on yourcomputer, make copies of them first, and usethe copied file, retaining the original.
