Brake System Warning LightWith the ignition on, the brake system warning light willcome on when you set the parking brake. If you tryto drive with the parking brake engaged, a chime willsound when the vehicle speed is greater than 3 mph(5 km/h).Your vehicle’s hydraulic brake system is divided into twoparts. If one part is not working, the other part canstill work and stop you. For good braking, though, youneed both parts working well.If the warning light comes on and a chime sounds therecould be a brake problem. Have your brake systeminspected right away.This light may also come on due to low brake fluid. SeeBrakes on page 5-36 for more information.This light should come on briefly when you turn theignition key to RUN. If it does not come on then, have itfixed so it will be ready to warn you if there is aproblem.If the light comes on while you are driving, pull off theroad and stop carefully. You may notice that the pedal isharder to push or may go closer to the floor. It maytake longer to stop. If the light is still on, have the vehicletowed for service.
