Running the Engine While ParkedIt is better not to park with the engine running. But if youever have to, here are some things to know.{CAUTION:Idling the engine with the climate controlsystem off could allow dangerous exhaust intoyour vehicle. See the earlier caution underEngine Exhaust on page 2-39.Also, idling in a closed-in place can let deadlycarbon monoxide (CO) into your vehicle even ifthe climate control fan is at the highest setting.One place this can happen is a garage.Exhaust — with CO — can come in easily.NEVER park in a garage with the enginerunning.Another closed-in place can be a blizzard. Do not leave your vehicle when the engineis running unless you have to. If you have leftthe engine running, the vehicle can movesuddenly. You or others could be injured. Tobe sure your vehicle will not move, even whenyou are on fairly level ground, always set theparking brake and move the shift lever toPARK (P).Follow the proper steps to be sure your vehicle will notmove.
