If you turn off StabiliTrak® , only the brake-tractioncontrol portion of traction control will work. Theengine speed management will be disabled. In thisstate, engine power is not reduced automaticallyand the driven wheels can spin more freely. This can cause the brake-traction control toactivate constantly.Notice: If you allow the wheel(s) of one axleto spin excessively while the StabiliTrak®,ABS and brake warning lights and theSERVICE STABILITRAK message aredisplayed, you could damage the transfercase. The repairs would not be covered byyour warranty. Reduce engine power anddo not spin the wheel(s) excessively whilethese lights and this message are displayed. The traction control system may activate ondry or rough roads or under conditions suchas heavy acceleration while turning or abruptupshifts/downshifts of the transmission. Whenthis happens you may notice a reduction inacceleration, or may hear a noise or vibration. This is normal. If your vehicle is in cruise control when the systemactivates, the StabiliTrak® light will flash and thecruise control will automatically disengage. When road conditions allow you to use cruiseagain, you may re-engage the cruise control.See Cruise Control on page 194.StabiliTrak® may also turn off automatically if itdetermines that a problem exists with the system. If the problem does not clear itself after restartingthe vehicle, you should see your dealer forservice.Adding non-GM accessories can affect yourvehicle’s performance. See Accessories andModifications on page 393 for more information.All-Wheel Drive (AWD) SystemIf your vehicle is equipped with this feature, engine power is sent to all four wheels when extratraction is needed. This is like four-wheel drive, but there is no separate lever or switch to engageor disengage the front axle. It is fully automatic, and adjusts itself as needed for road conditions.328
