Installation 152.5 Hardware Installation OutlineHardware configurationThese PCI cards (or CompactPCI, Low Profile PCI cards) areequipped with a Plug and Play PCI controller that requestsbase addresses and interrupts according to PCI standard. Thesystem BIOS will install the system resource based on the PCIcards’ configuration registers and system parameters (whichare set by system BIOS). Interrupt assignment and memoryusage (I/O port locations) of the PCI cards can be assigned bysystem BIOS only. These system resource assignments aredone on a board-by-board basis. It is not recommended toassign the system resource by any other methods.PCI slot selectionThe PCI and Low-Profile PCI cards can be inserted to any PCIslot without any configuration for system resource. Compact-PCI peripheral slots are marked with a circle on the backplane.Please note that the PCI, CompactPCI, and Low-Profile PCIsystem board must provide bus-mastering capability to operatethis board well.Installation Procedure1. Turn off the computer2. Turn off all accessories (printer, modem, monitor, etc.)connected to the computer3. Remove the cover from your computer4. Select a 32-bit PCI slot. PCI slots are shorter than theISA or EISA slots, and are usually white or ivory incolour.5. Before handling the PCI cards, discharge any staticbuildup on your body by touching the metal case of thecomputer. Hold the edge of the card and do not touchthe components.6. Position the board into the PCI selected slot.7. Secure the card in place at the rear panel of the system.
