Theserouters integrate seamlessly into existingnetworks to facilitate keeping pace withrapidly changing business needs.Organizations gain easily managed, robustnetworks for reliable support of their keybusiness applications.Flexible and Resilient DesignThe Router 6000 family offers an attractivenetwork solution for enterprises wantingto maximize throughput and resiliencyfrom the core to the edge. The flexiblemodular design of the 3Com Router 6040and Router 6080 offers multiple configura-tion options with a variety of LAN andWAN interfaces that adhere to strictindustry specifications. Interface modules,known as Flexible Interface Cards (FICs),provide LAN and WAN support for high-speed serial, T1/E1, T3/E3, ISDN PRI,asynchronous transfer mode (ATM), andasymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL),as well as a variety of Ethernet options.The Router 6040 is housed in a 3U chassiswith four FIC slots; the Router 6080 comesin a 5U chassis with eight FIC slots formaximum flexibility and growth. Formaximum uptime, both routers offer twoembedded 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX ports,hot-swappable FIC, and fan and powersupply modules. Powering down therouter is not necessary when changingthese components.Feature-Rich, Full RoutingThe Router 6000 family helps enhanceROI—protecting the purchase investmentand eliminating hidden upgrade costs byproviding maximum operating memory, acomplete routing and security suite, androbust applications set. The router isdesigned to meet present and future needswithout system memory or softwareupgrade purchases; no late-night upgradesor unplanned downtime are needed.The routers include the full complement ofSDRAM and FLASH memory* to supportdual software images. This feature assistsin recovery and provides rollback capabili-ties. Also included as standard are: IP andIPX Routing, OSPF, RIP V1/2, integratedIS-IS, multicast routing, Quality of Service(QoS), IEEE 802.1Q VLAN, IGMP v1, 2and 3, stateful packet inspection firewall,IPSec, BGP-4, and MPLS VPN.Verified InteroperabilityThe 3Com Router 6000 family is “TollyVerified for Interoperability with Cisco‡”and Tolly Verified for redundancy.
