22 CHAPTER 4: INSTALLATION OF THE ROUTERInstalling theRouter to theSpecified LocationInstall the router after you have completed the installation preparations.The installation of the router will be respectively described below according to thepositions that it will be placed:■ Installing the router on a workbench■ Installing the router in a rackInstalling the Routeron a WorkbenchIn many circumstances, you may not own a 19-inch standard rack. Usually, the router willbe installed on a clean workbench. The operations are very simple, but still, you shouldbe aware of the following items:■ Ensure the stability and well-grounding of the workbench.■ Leave a space of 10cm around the router for heat dissipation.■ Do not place heavy objects on the router.Installing the Routerin a Rack3Com 5000 Routers are designed according to the dimensions of a 19-inch standardrack.As shown in Figure 8, follow the steps below to install the router:1 Check the grounding and stability of the rack. Use the screws to fix the mounting ears atboth sides of the front panel or the rear panel of the router.2 Put the router in a rack tray. Depending on the actual situation, slide the router along thechassis guides to an appropriate place.3 Fasten the mounting ears with the recess screws to fix the router in the rack horizontallyand firmly.
