76 Mobile ComputingRunning the computer on battery powerBattery NoticeBattery life rating is for comparison purposes only, and doesnot indicate the battery life that will be obtained by anyindividual user. Actual battery life may vary considerablyfrom specifications depending on product model,configuration, applications, power management settings andfeatures utilized, as well as the natural performancevariations produced by the design of individual components.The battery life rating is only achieved on the select modelsand configurations tested by Toshiba under the specific testsettings at the time of publication and is not an estimate of asystem’s battery life under any conditions other than thespecific test settings.Recharge time varies depending on usage. Battery may notcharge while the computer is consuming full power. After aperiod of time, the battery will lose its ability to perform atmaximum capacity and will need to be replaced. This isnormal for all batteries.To ensure that the battery maintains its maximum capacity,operate the computer on battery power at least once amonth. The Lithium-Ion battery has no memory effect so it isnot necessary to let the battery fully discharge each time.However, for better accuracy of the battery meter, it is helpfulto fully discharge the battery periodically. Please see“Maintaining your battery” on page 88 for procedures. If thecomputer is continuously operated on AC power, eitherthrough an AC adaptor or a port replicator (if applicable toyour system), for an extended period (more than a month),the battery may fail to retain a charge. This may shorten thelife of the battery, and may cause the battery meter to beinaccurate.For best performance when playing streaming media(especially streaming video), either power the computerfrom its AC adaptor, or set up a power plan that keepsthe computer running at full performance even whenpowered from its battery.
