Transport latch (side cutting units)Operating TipsMow When Grass is DryMow either in the late morning to avoid the dew, which causesgrass clumping, or in late afternoon to avoid the damagethat can be caused by direct sunlight on the sensitive, freshlymowed grass.Select the Proper Height-of-CutSetting to Suit ConditionsRemove approximately 25 mm (1 inch) or no more than 1/3of the grass blade when cutting. In exceptionally lush anddense grass, you may have to raise the height-of-cut to thenext setting.Mow at Proper IntervalsUnder most normal conditions you will need to mowapproximately every 4-5 days. But remember, grass grows atdifferent rates at different times. This means that in order tomaintain the same height-of-cut, which is a good practice, you will need to cut more frequently in early spring; as thegrass growth rate slows in mid summer, cut only every 8-10days. If you are unable to mow for an extended period dueto weather conditions or other reasons, mow first with theheight-of-cut at a high level; then mow again 2-3 days laterwith a lower height setting.TransportingUse the transport latches when transporting over longdistances, rough terrain, or when trailering. After OperatingTo ensure optimum performance, clean the underside of themower housing after each use. If residue is allowed to buildup in the mower housing, cutting performance will decrease.Cutting Unit PitchA blade pitch of 8 to 11 mm (5/16 to 7/16 inch) isrecommended. A pitch larger than 8 to 11 mm (5/16 to 7/16inch) will result in less power required, larger clippings, anda poorer quality of cut. A pitch less than 8 to 11 mm (5/16to 7/16 inch) will result in more power required, smallerclippings and a better quality of cut.Maximizing Air ConditionerPerformance• To limit solar heating, park the machine in a shaded areaor leave the doors open in direct sun.• Check to make sure the air conditioning condenser finsare clean.• Operate the air conditioner blower at the mid speedsetting.• Verify continuous seal between the roof and the headliner.Correct as required.• Measure the air temperature at the front center vent inthe headliner (Typically stabilize at less than or equal to50 degrees F.)• Refer to the Service Manual for additional information36
