2-1Chapter 2 Hardware DescriptionsThis chapter describes the hardware of the iDCS 500 system as follows.y System Cabinetsy Common Control Cardsy Interface Cardsy Station EquipmentSYSTEM CABINETSThe cabinets that make up the iDCS 500 system are of metal construction and may be utilized as eitheras an expansion cabinet or as a main cabinet / key service unit (KSU). The cabinets may be usedsingly or may be stacked up to three (3) high to achieve maximum capacity. A single cabinet may bewall mounted for smaller applications or alternatively the system may be mounted in a standardnineteen inch (19”) equipment rack after removal of the side panels and their supporting brackets.Each cabinet is comprised of the following:y Eight interface card slotsy One dual purpose interface card / signal processor slot (see ‘Size and Configuration’ section.)y One processor card sloty Two power supply slotsy One IOM board slot for use when the cabinet is the main cabinet/KSU (see ‘IOM Board’ section)y AC power connectory DC power (Battery Backup) connectorNOTE: The first power supply slot must be occupied by a PSU-B power supply to supply sufficientpower to all 10 slots (8 interface, one dual purpose and one processor slot). The second powersupply slot can be occupied by either a PSU 60 or a PSU-B. Do not install a PSU 40 in any PSU slot.
