Page 12 of 1313.4 How Data Flows Through the RouterIt is important to understand how data flows through the router so you can customize yourconfiguration.3.4.1 Default ConfigurationThe default configuration is:Captive Portal (Crew Internet Access) - disabledInternal Transparent Proxy for http URL and content filtering - disabledWeb Compression - disabledFirewall - closed, allows Internet access only via RedPort-certified email or web accountDNS - closedRedPort Email - disabledSMS - enabled, for compatible satellite devicesGPS Tracking - disabledVoice Capability - enabled, for compatible satellite devicesRedPort VoIP - disabledIn its default state, without any modifications, oneprimary account holder at-a-time can connect tosend/receive email or web browse using a RedPort-certified email service like XGate or web browsingservice like XWeb.All email requests go directly to the upstream emailserver. The mail is downloaded to the end-userscomputer/device and then the mail is purged from theserver. Limited mail filtering is possible thru theRedPort-certified email service program.All web browsing requests go directly to the upstreamcompression server. Compressed webpages arereturned to the end-user, whenever compression ispossible. The end-user can set the compression levelthru the RedPort-certified web service program. However, it is not possible to create any filtersfor content, to whitelist or blacklists hosts or URLs, or to designate sites to bypass contentfilters. Nor is it possible to set limits on usage.The default state is designed for the single user that uses services like XGate and XWeb foremail and web browsing and use the XGate Phone app on their smartphone for making voicecalls.See below for how to use the router for web browsing without XWeb service.
