MAINTENANCECLEANINGTHEHEADSECTIONTheheads,capstan andpinchrollerarepartswhichareliabletogetdirtyquiteeasily.Inparticular,iftheheadsaredirty,thehighfrequencycomponentsofthesoundwillnotbereproducedandthestereobalancewillbeimpaired,resultingin adeteriorationinsoundquality.Itisthereforerecommendedthattheheadsectionbecleanedregularly.®PushtheEJECTbuttontoopenthecassette door.®Dipacleaningswabintoheadcleaningfluidanduseittowipe the heads, capstan, and pinch roller.DEMAGNETIZING THE HEADTherecording/playbackheadbecomesmagnetizedwhenyouusethetapedeckforprolongedperiodsof time.Thisresultsinnoisebeinggenerated andthetrebledroppingoffduring,recordingandplayback.Therecording/playbackeadshouldthereforebedemagnetizedregularlywithaheaddemagnetizer(soldseparately).Forfurtherdetails,refertotheoperatinginstructionsaccom-panyingyourhead demagnetizer.NOTE:®Donotholdscrewdrivers,metalobjectsormagnetsclosetotheheads.@Whendemagnetizingtheheads, besure theunit'sPOWERswitchisintheOFFposition.Plyaback headNOTE:@This unitusesahead-slantstandbysystem,withthere-sultthattheheadsaremountedatanangledposition.®Cleantherec/playbackheadasshownintheabovedraw-ing.CLEANING THE UNITWipethefrontpanelandthe cassettedoorwhendustyorgreasy withasoftclothcontainingasmallamountofordinary cleanupliquid.Then wipedry withacloth.Neverusevolatilespiritslikethinners,benzineoralcohol,astheywilldamagethe panel'sfinish.20ADJUSTINGTHESTYLUSDESCENTPOSITION{PL-888Zonly)Proceedasfoliowswhenthestylusdoesnotdescendatthe-properpositionon therecordduringautoplay.Whileperformingtheadjustment,takecarenottoscratchtherecordwiththestylus.4Placea30cmLPrecordon theplatter.PushtheSTART/STOPswitchtostartautoplay.®Checkthedirectionandamountofstylusdeviation(howmanymillimeterstowardtheinsideoroutsideoftherecord's lead-ingroove).PushtheSTART/STOPswitchtore-turn thetonearmtothearmrest.SettheARM-ELEVATIONswitchtotheUPpositionandmanuallymovethetonearmacrosstheoutsideedgeoftherecord.Rotatethescrewwithasmallscrew-driverinaccordancewiththe direc-tion ofthedeviationobservedinstep2.©Rotatethescrewclockwiseifthestylusdescendsontheoutsideoftheproperposition.@Rotatethescrewcounterclockwiseifthe stylusde-scendsontheinsideoftheproperposition.ManuallyreturnthetonearmtothearmrestandsettheARM-ELEVATIONswitchtotheDOWNposition.7PushtheSTART/STOPswitch andcheckthat the stylusstopsatthe lead-ingrooveontheoutercircumferenceofthe record.Ifthepositionisstil!not correct,repeat steps2to6.If the stylus de-scends on theinside of theproper position.If the stylus descendson the outside of theproper positionAdjustment hoie ~> ZoAN
