7Getting Started1 SAFE ANTENNA AND CABLECONNECTIONAn outside antenna or cable system must beproperly grounded to provide some protectionagainst built up static charges and voltage.Section 810 of the National Electrical Code,ANSI/NFPA 70 (in Canada, part 1 of theCanadian Electrical Code) provides informationregarding proper grounding of the mast andsupporting structure, grounding of the lead-inwire to an antenna discharge unit, size ofgrounding conductors, location of antennadischarge unit, connection to groundingelectrodes, and requirements for the groundingelectrode.2 KEEP ANTENNA CLEAR OF HIGHVOLTAGE POWER LINES ORCIRCUITSLocate an outside antenna system well awayfrom power lines and electric light or powercircuits so it will never touch these powersources should itever fall. Wheninstalling antenna, absolutely nevertouch power lines, circuits or otherpower sources asthis could be fatal.GROUNDCLAMPELECTRICSERVICEEQUIPMENTANTENNALEAD INWIREANTENNADISCHARGE UNIT(NEC SECTION 810-20)GROUNDING CONDUCTORS(NEC SECTION 810-21)GROUND CLAMPSPOWER SERVICE GROUNDINGELECTRODE SYSTEM(NEC ART 250, PART H)NEC - NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODEOUTDOOR ANTENNA INSTALLATIONUSING THE UNITSERVICEBefore unit is brought out of storage ormoved to a new location, refer again to theINSTALLATION section of these safeguards.1 KEEP UNIT WELL AWAY FROMWATER OR MOISTURE,such as vases, sinks, tubs, etc.2 IF EXPOSED TO RAIN, MOISTURE,OR STRONG IMPACT,unplug unit and have it inspected by a qualifiedservice technician before use.3 ELECTRICAL STORMSDuring a lightning storm, or before leaving unitunused for extended periods of time, disconnect all equipment from the powersource as well as the antenna and cablesystem.4 WHEN UNIT IS PLUGGED IN• DO NOT OPERATE IF:- liquid has spilled into unit.- unit was dropped or otherwise damaged.- unit emits smoke, odours, or noises.Immediately unplug unit, and have itinspected by a service technician to avoidpotential fire and shock hazards.• Never drop or push any object throughopenings in unit.
