14• When cutting a thin workpiece, such as baseboards, against the fence, always use thehorizontal vise.Holders (Optional accessory)1 2009607The holders can be installed on either side as aconvenient means of holding workpieces horizontally.Slip the holder rods into the holes in the base and adjusttheir length according to the workpiece to be held. Thentighten the holders securely with the screws.WARNING:• Always support a long workpiece so it is levelwith the top surface of the turn base for anaccurate cut and to prevent dangerous loss oftool control. Proper workpiece support will helpavoid blade pinch and possible kickback which mayresult in serious personal injury.OPERATIONNOTICE:• Before use, be sure to release the handle from thelowered position by pulling the stopper pin.• Do not apply excessive pressure on the handlewhen cutting. Too much force may result inoverload of the motor and/or decreased cuttingefficiency. Push down handle with only as muchforce as is necessary for smooth cutting andwithout significant decrease in blade speed.• Gently press down the handle to perform the cut. Ifthe handle is pressed down with force or if lateralforce is applied, the blade will vibrate and leave amark (saw mark) in the workpiece and the precisionof the cut will be impaired.• During a slide cut, gently push the carriage towardthe guide fence without stopping. If the carriagemovement is stopped during the cut, a mark will beleft in the workpiece and the precision of the cut willbe impaired.WARNING:• Make sure the blade is not contacting theworkpiece, etc. before the switch is turned on.Turning the tool on with the blade in contact with theworkpiece may result in kickback and seriouspersonal injury.1. Press cutting (cutting small workpieces)009503Workpieces up to 71 mm (2-13/16") high and 155mm (6-1/8") wide can be cut in the followingmanner. After turning the stopper lever clockwise and slidingthe carriage to your desired position, push thecarriage toward the guide fence fully and tightenthe locking screw clockwise and pull the lock levertowards the front of the saw to secure the carriage.Secure the workpiece correctly with the proper typeof vise or crown molding stoppers. Switch on thetool without the blade making any contact and waituntil the blade attains full speed before lowering. Then gently lower the handle to the fully loweredposition to cut the workpiece. When the cut iscompleted, switch off the tool and WAIT UNTILTHE BLADE HAS COME TO A COMPLETE STOPbefore returning the blade to its fully elevatedposition.WARNING:• Firmly tighten the locking screw clockwise andpull the lock lever towards the front of the sawso that the carriage will not move duringoperation. Insufficient tightening of the lockingscrew may cause possible kickback which mayresult in serious personal injury.2.
