15Holders and holder assembly(optional accessories)Fig.36The holders and the holder assembly can be installed oneither side as a convenient means of supportingworkpieces horizontally. Install them as shown in thefigure. Then tighten the screws firmly to secure theholders and the holder assembly. When cutting long workpieces, use the holder-rodassembly (optional accessory). It consists of two holderassemblies and two rods 12.Fig.37CAUTION:• Always support long workpieces level with the topsurface of the turn base for accurate cuts and toprevent dangerous loss of control of the tool.OPERATIONCAUTION:• Before use, be sure to release the handle from thelowered position by pulling the stopper pin.• Make sure the blade is not contacting theworkpiece, etc. before the switch is turned on.• Do not apply excessive pressure on the handlewhen cutting. Too much force may result inoverload of the motor and/or decreased cuttingefficiency. Push down handle with only as muchforce as is necessary for smooth cutting andwithout significant decrease in blade speed.• Gently press down the handle to perform the cut. Ifthe handle is pressed down with force or if lateralforce is applied, the blade will vibrate and leave amark (saw mark) in the workpiece and the precisionof the cut will be impaired.• During a slide cut, gently push the carriage towardthe guide fence without stopping. If the carriagemovement is stopped during the cut, a mark will beleft in the workpiece and the precision of the cut willbe impaired.1. Press cutting (cutting small workpieces)Fig.38Workpieces up to 50 mm high and 97 mm wide canbe cut in the following way.Push the carriage toward the guide fence fully andtighten two clamp screws which secure the slidepoles clockwise to secure the carriage. Secure theworkpiece with the vise. Switch on the tool withoutthe blade making any contact and wait until theblade attains full speed before lowering. Thengently lower the handle to the fully lowered positionto cut the workpiece. When the cut is completed, switch off the tool and WAIT UNTIL THE BLADEHAS COME TO A COMPLETE STOP beforereturning the blade to its fully elevated position.CAUTION:• Firmly tighten two clamping screws which securethe slide poles clockwise so that the carriage willnot move during operation. Insufficient tighteningmay cause unexpected kickback of the blade.Possible serious PERSONAL INJURY may result.2. Slide (push) cutting (cutting wide workpieces)Fig.39Loosen two clamp screws which secure the slidepoles counterclockwise so that the carriage canslide freely. Secure the workpiece with the vise. Pullthe carriage toward you fully. Switch on the toolwithout the blade making any contact and wait untilthe blade attains full speed. Press down the handleand PUSH THE CARRIAGE TOWARD THEGUIDE FENCE AND THROUGH THEWORKPIECE. When the cut is completed, switchoff the tool and WAIT UNTIL THE BLADE HASCOME TO A COMPLETE STOP before returningthe blade to its fully elevated position.CAUTION:• Whenever performing the slide cut, FIRST PULLTHE CARRIAGE TOWARD YOU FULLY and pressdown the handle to the fully lowered position, thenPUSH THE CARRIAGE TOWARD THE GUIDEFENCE. NEVER START THE CUT WITH THECARRIAGE NOT FULLY PULLED TOWARD YOU.If you perform the slide cut without pulling thecarriage fully or if you perform the slide cut towardyour direction, the blade may kickbackunexpectedly with the potential to cause seriousPERSONAL INJURY.• Never perform the slide cut with the handle lockedin the lowered position by pressing the stopper pin.• Never loosen the clamp screw which secures thecarriage while the blade is rotating. This may causeserious injury.3. Miter cuttingRefer to the previously covered "Adjusting the miterangle".4. Bevel cutFig.40Loosen the lever and tilt the saw blade to set thebevel angle (Refer to the previously covered"Adjusting the bevel angle"). Be sure to retightenthe lever firmly to secure the selected bevel anglesafely. Secure the workpiece with a vise. Make surethe carriage is pulled all the way back toward theoperator. Switch on the tool without the blademaking any contact and wait until the blade attainsfull speed. Then gently lower the handle to the fullylowered position while applying pressure in parallelwith the blade and PUSH THE CARRIAGE |
