15 ENGLISHFUNCTIONALDESCRIPTIONWARNING:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off and unpluggedbefore adjusting or checking function on the tool.Blade guard► Fig.7: 1. Blade guardWhen lowering the handle, the blade guard rises automat-ically. The guard is spring loaded so it returns to its originalposition when the cut is completed and the handle is raised.NEVER DEFEAT OR REMOVE THE BLADE GUARD ORTHE SPRING WHICH ATTACHES TO THE GUARD.In the interest of your personal safety, always maintain the bladeguard in good condition. Any irregular operation of the bladeguard should be corrected immediately. Check to assure springloaded return action of guard. NEVER USE THE TOOL IF THEBLADE GUARD OR SPRING ARE DAMAGED, FAULTY ORREMOVED. DOING SO IS HIGHLY DANGEROUS AND CANCAUSE SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY.If the see-through blade guard becomes dirty, or saw-dust adheres to it in such a way that the blade is no lon-ger easily visible, unplug the saw and clean the guardcarefully with a damp cloth. Do not use solvents or anypetroleum-based cleaners on the plastic guard.If the blade guard is especially dirty and vision through theguard is impaired, use the supplied hex wrench to loosenthe hex socket bolt holding the center cover. Loosen the hexsocket bolt by turning it counterclockwise and raise the bladeguard and center cover. With the blade guard so positioned,cleaning can be more completely and efficiently accom-plished. When cleaning is complete, reverse procedure aboveand secure bolt. Do not remove spring holding blade guard. Ifguard becomes discolored through age or UV light exposure,contact a Makita service center for a new guard. DO NOTDEFEAT OR REMOVE GUARD.► Fig.8: 1. Blade guardPositioning kerf board► Fig.9: 1. Straight cutThis tool is provided with the kerf boards in the turn base tominimize tearing on the exit side of a cut. The kerf boards arefactory adjusted so that the saw blade does not contact thekerf boards. Before use, adjust the kerf boards as follows:First, unplug the tool. Loosen all the screws (2 each on left andright) securing the kerf boards. Re-tighten them only to the extentthat the kerf boards can still be easily moved by hand. Lowerthe handle fully and push in the stopper pin to lock the handlein the lowered position. Loosen two clamp screws which securethe slide poles. Pull the carriage toward you fully. Adjust the kerfboards so that the kerf boards just contact the sides of the bladeteeth. Tighten the front screws (do not tighten firmly). Push thecarriage toward the guide fence fully and adjust the kerf boards sothat the kerf boards just contact the sides of blade teeth. Tightenthe rear screws (do not tighten firmly).After adjusting the kerf boards, release the stopper pin andraise the handle. Then tighten all the screws securely.CAUTION:• Before and after changing the bevel angle, alwaysadjust the kerf boards as described above.Maintaining maximum cuttingcapacity► Fig.11: 1. Guide fenceThis tool is factory adjusted to provide the maximum cuttingcapacity for a 190 mm saw blade.When installing a new blade, always check the lower limitposition of the blade and if necessary, adjust it as follows:First, unplug the tool. Push the carriage toward theguide fence fully and lower the handle completely. Usethe hex wrench to turn the adjusting bolt until the peripheryof the blade extends slightly below the top surface of theturn base at the point where the front face of the guide fencemeets the top surface of the turn base.With the tool unplugged, rotate the blade by hand whileholding the handle all the way down to be sure thatthe blade does not contact any part of the lower base.Re-adjust slightly, if necessary.WARNING:• After installing a new blade, always be sure thatthe blade does not contact any part of the lowerbase when the handle is lowered completely.Always do this with the tool unplugged.Stopper arm► Fig.13: 1. Adjusting screw 2. Stopper armThe lower limit position of the blade can be easily adjustedwith the stopper arm. To adjust it, move the stopper arm in thedirection of the arrow as shown in the figure. Adjust the adjust-ing screw so that the blade stops at the desired position whenlowering the handle fully.Sub-fenceCountry specificWARNING: When performing left bevel cuts,flip the sub-fence outward. Otherwise, it may con-tact the blade or a part of the tool, and may result inserious injury to the operator.► Fig.14: 1. Sub-fenceThis tool is equipped with the sub-fence. Usually posi-tion the sub-fence inside. However, when performingleft bevel cuts, flip it outward.Adjusting the miter angle► Fig.15: 1. Turn base 2. Lock lever 3. Miter scale4. Pointer 5. GripLoosen the grip by turning counterclockwise. Turn theturn base while pressing down the lock lever. When youhave moved the grip to the position where the pointerpoints to the desired angle on the miter scale, securelytighten the grip clockwise. |
