21STOP723146 5ABCleaning the brake band and sprocket interiorCAUTION: Before doing any work on the guide bar orchain, always switch off the engine and pull the plug capoff the spark plug (see "Replacing the spark plug"). Alwayswear protective gloves!CAUTION: Start the chain saw only after having assem-bled it completely and inspected.Remove the sprocket guard (1) (See "PUTTING INTO OPE-RATION" figs. B) and clean the interior with a brush.Turn the chain tensioning screw (2) to the left (counter-clock-wise) until pin (3) of the chain tensioner is underneath thethreaded pin (4).Remove the chain (5) and guide bar (6).NOTE:Make sure there are no residues or foreign matter remaining inthe oil guide groove (7) or on the chain tensioner (3).For replacing the guide bar, chain, and sprocket see "PUTTINGINTO OPERATION".NOTE:The chain brake is a very important safety device and likeany other component subject to normal wear and tear.Regular inspection and maintenance are important foryour own safety and must be done by a MAKITA servicecentre.SERVICECleaning the guide barCAUTION: Protective gloves must be worn.Regularly inspect the bearing surfaces of the guide bar fordamage, and clean them with a suitable tool.
