6ASSEMBLYFIG. 1BEFORE REMOVING TRACTOR FROMSKIDATTACH STEERING WHEEL (See Fig. 1)• Remove locknut and large flat washer from steeringshaft.• Position front wheels of the tractor so they are pointingstraight forward.• Slide the steering sleeve over the steering shaft.• Align tabs and press steering sleeve extension intobottom of steering wheel.• Position steering wheel so cross bars are horizontal(left to right) and slide onto steering wheel adapter.• Secure steering wheel to steering shaft with locknutand large flat washer previously removed. To ensure safe and proper operation of your tractor all parts and hardware you assemble must be tightenedsecurely. Use the correct tools as necessary to insure proper tightness.TOOLS REQUIRED FOR ASSEMBLYA socket wrench set will make assembly easier. Standardwrench sizes are listed.(2) 9/16" wrench Utility knife(1) 1/2" wrench Tire pressure gauge(1) 3/4" wrench Pliers(1) 3/4" socket with drive ratchetWhen right or left hand is mentioned in this manual, it meanswhen you are in the operating position (seated behind thesteering wheel).TO REMOVE TRACTOR FROMCARTONUNPACK CARTON• Remove all accessible loose parts and parts cartonsfrom carton .• Cut along dotted lines on all four panels of carton.Remove end panels and lay side panels flat.• Remove mower and packing materials.• Check for any additional loose parts or cartons andremove.HOW TO SET UP YOUR TRACTORCONNECT BATTERY (See Fig. 2)CAUTION: Do not short battery ter-minals by allowing a wrench or anyother object to contact both terminalsat the same time. Before connect-ing battery, remove metal brace-lets, wristwatch bands, rings, etc.Positive terminal must be connectedfirst to prevent sparking from accidentalgrounding.• Lift hood to raised position.• Open terminal access doors, remove terminal protec-tive caps and discard.• If this battery is put into service after month and yearindicated on label (label located between terminals)charge battery for minimum of one hour at 6-10amps.• First connect RED battery cable to positive (+) batteryterminal with hex bolt and keps nut as shown. Tightensecurely.• Connect BLACK grounding cable to negative (-) batteryterminal with remaining hex bolt and keps nut. Tightensecurely.• Close terminal access doors.Use terminal access doors for:• Inspection for secure connections (to tighten hardware).• Inspection for corrosion.• Testing battery.• Jumping (if required).• Periodic charging.
