SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS4WARNING: Failure to comply with thefollowing warnings could result in seriousbodily injury or death!General UseWARNING: Before operating machine, read andunderstand this entire operation manual and engineoperation manual supplied with the engine.Be familiar with machine before operation.Personal EquipmentOperator must wear personal protective equipmentand clothing appropriate to the work he is doing.Personal protective equipment such as hearing andeye protection is mandatory.HearingDuring normal use of this machine, operator may beexposed to a noise level equal to 85 db (A) orgreater. Temporary and/or permanent damage tohearing may result. Hearing protection required.Work AreaThe working area must be completely clear, well litand all safety hazards removed.Any persons not involved in the work should leavethe area.WARNING: Do not contact the blades when thetrowel is in operation.Spark ArrestorsState Health Safety Codes and Public ResourcesCodes specify that in certain locations sparkarresters be used on internal combustion enginesthat use hydrocarbon fuels. A spark arrester is adevice designed to prevent accidental dischargeof sparks or flames from the engine exhaust.Spark arresters are qualified and rated by theUnited States Forest Service for this purpose. Inorder to comply with local laws regarding sparkarresters, consult the engine distributor or thelocal Health and Safety Administrator.Fuel SafetyWARNING: Take care when handling fuel. Bearin mind the risk of fire, explosion and inhalingfumes.• Only store fuel in containers approved for thepurpose.• Only refuel machine with engine OFF. Neverremove fuel cap and fill the fuel tank while theengine is running.• Always refuel in a well ventilated area.• Never fill a fuel tank indoors.• Allow engine to cool before refueling.• Move machine 10 feet (3 meters) fromrefueling point before starting engine.WARNING: Never fuel machine in vicinity ofsparks or flames.
